After initial fan concerns following its gameplay reveal, IO Interactive has officially confirmed that the upcoming James Bond game, "007 First Light," will target a smooth 60 frames per second (fps) on the PlayStation 5 Pro. This news addresses worries about choppy performance seen in earlier footage, especially during intense action sequences.
IO Interactive appears to have leveraged additional development time to significantly improve "007 First Light's" performance. The studio has now confirmed that the game is optimized to run at a fluid 60fps on the more powerful PS5 Pro. For those playing on the standard PS5, a dedicated performance mode will also deliver 60fps gameplay. Alternatively, players can opt for a quality mode, which prioritizes higher visual fidelity at a stable 30fps.
While IO Interactive has been clear about the PS5 performance, details regarding the Xbox Series X and Series S versions remain less defined. It is presumed that the Xbox Series X will offer similar performance and quality mode options as the base PS5. However, the Xbox Series S, with its less powerful hardware, presents a more uncertain scenario. The console's limitations often mean fewer graphical options, making it difficult to predict how "007 First Light" will perform on this platform.
Despite the performance discussions, "007 First Light" is generating considerable excitement. The game received a positive preview, highlighting its potential. Importantly, IO Interactive has stated its commitment to its established roots in the "Hitman" franchise, assuring fans that the development of the Bond title will not mean abandoning their signature stealth gameplay style. "007 First Light" is set to launch on May 27, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
