Renault Reveals 4 JP4x4 Electric Concept

Renault has introduced a new concept vehicle, the 4 JP4x4. This all-electric show car is an open-air design intended for recreational use, drawing inspiration from both classic Renault models and the modern Renault 4 E-Tech platform. The vehicle is presented as a modern beach buggy, showcasing the versatility of electric vehicle architecture.

Design and Features

The concept features a striking Emerald Green paint finish with a bright orange interior. It is designed with the roof and doors removed, though structural cross beams remain to maintain body rigidity. The design blends historical cues from the 1981 JP4 and 1969 Plein Air models with a modern electric base. Practicality is addressed with a drop-down tailgate, interior hooks for securing items, and rear mounting points for recreational gear like skateboards. The dashboard retains the dual-screen layout found in the production Renault 4 E-Tech model.

Powertrain and Capability

Unlike the front-wheel-drive production model it is based on, the 4 JP4x4 concept is equipped with electric motors on both the front and rear axles. This configuration creates an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, which delivers power to all four wheels for improved traction on loose surfaces such as sand or dirt. To further enhance its off-pavement potential, the vehicle's ground clearance has been raised by 15 millimeters. It is fitted with 18-inch wheels and Goodyear UltraGrip 225/55 tires. The front and rear tracks have also been widened to improve stability and handling.

Market Outlook

Renault has confirmed that the 4 JP4x4 is a show car and there are no current plans for a production version. A production model based on this design would likely require significant modifications to meet global safety regulations. The concept primarily serves as a demonstration of the design flexibility offered by electric vehicle platforms. It represents a creative approach that prioritizes recreational appeal over the aerodynamic efficiency that influences many contemporary EV designs.
