New iterations of the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini are reportedly "nearly ready to go," with their release contingent on the rollout of a more personalized Siri experience. Both devices have been in development for months and are already being tested by Apple employees. This suggests a potential launch in the coming months, likely following the software updates that will enable the enhanced Siri capabilities.
According to insights from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the hardware for the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini has been finalized for some time. The delay in their official release is attributed to Apple's strategy of waiting for the more personalized version of Siri to be ready. This enhanced Siri is slated to debut with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 17, which are expected to be announced at WWDC 2026 on June 8. Following a period of beta testing, these software updates should become widely available in September, aligning with the anticipated launch window for the new hardware.
June 8 → September
Apple's expected path runs from a WWDC 2026 Siri unveiling to a broader software and hardware release window in September.
While the wait for new models has been considerable – the current Apple TV 4K launched in October 2022 and the HomePod mini in October 2020 – significant changes to the core functionality of these devices are not anticipated. Gurman suggests that the primary upgrades will involve newer chips designed to support the enhanced Siri.
| Device | Current hardware | Rumored upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV 4K | A15 Bionic chip | A17 Pro chip, possible N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support |
| HomePod mini | S5 chip | Possible S9 chip or newer equivalent |
| Design outlook | Current Apple TV form factor | Expected to remain similar, with focus on Siri support rather than a major redesign |
Adding a new dimension to the Apple TV update, there are indications that the Siri Remote may receive a refresh, though specific details about design changes remain scarce. For the HomePod mini, it's speculated to utilize an S9 chip from the Apple Watch or a newer equivalent. The extent to which this chip will fully support the new Siri capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence is still unclear. Previous rumors have also pointed to the inclusion of the N1 chip, improvements in audio quality, an updated Ultra Wideband chip, and the potential return of a red color option for the HomePod mini.
Beyond the Apple TV and HomePod mini, Apple is also reportedly preparing updates for the full-sized HomePod and introducing an entirely new smart home hub this year. These devices are also subject to the same Siri-dependent launch timeline, underscoring the central role the improved voice assistant will play in Apple's ecosystem strategy.
The next Apple TV hardware is reportedly finished, but its launch is being held until the upgraded Siri experience is ready.
The smaller speaker is expected to get internal updates and possible feature refinements, but it is following the same Siri-tied timeline as Apple TV.
Apple is also said to be preparing a refreshed full-sized HomePod and a new smart home hub, both apparently aligned with the same voice-assistant rollout.
