SwitchBot has launched its latest smart deadbolt locks, the Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro, boasting an impressive array of biometric security features. These new locks promise quick, one-second unlocking via facial recognition and an extended battery life of up to 12 months on a single charge. Available for preorder in the U.S., they are set to begin shipping in June.

SwitchBot says facial recognition can unlock the door in just one second, making speed a central selling point of the new locks.
The Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro share the same core facial-recognition system, but the Pro model adds extra biometric options for stronger authentication.
| Model | Core biometric method | Extra security features |
|---|---|---|
| Lock Vision | 3D structured light facial recognition | On-device processing and low-light unlocking |
| Lock Vision Pro | 3D structured light facial recognition | Fingerprint reader and palm vein scanning |
The Lock Vision and Lock Vision Pro leverage 3D structured light technology for facial recognition, similar to Apple's Face ID. This method uses multiple invisible light beams to create an accurate 3D map of the user's face, making it difficult to fool with simple photos. SwitchBot claims this on-device processing allows for unlocking in just one second, even in low-light conditions.
The Lock Vision Pro elevates security further by incorporating a fingerprint reader and palm vein scanning. Palm vein scanning, a technology praised for its accuracy, adds another robust layer of authentication. While not as advanced as some ultra-wideband or Aliro-based unlocking systems, it's considered a strong alternative.
Beyond biometrics, the two locks package several fallback and convenience methods, along with a dual-battery setup meant to keep access available in difficult conditions.
Users can unlock with numeric codes, NFC cards, smartphone apps, smart home platforms, or a physical backup key.
The Lock Vision Pro can automatically unlock as the user approaches home using GPS geofencing.
A USB-C rechargeable main battery is paired with a CR123A backup that can handle 500 emergency unlocks and operate down to -4°F (-20°C).
Beyond the advanced biometrics, both Lock Vision models offer a comprehensive suite of unlocking methods. Users can opt for traditional numeric passcodes, NFC card scanning, or smartphone app control via the SwitchBot app or other smart home platforms like Apple Home and Google Home. A physical key backup is also included.
The Lock Vision Pro additionally supports GPS geofencing for automatic unlocking when the user approaches their home. Both locks are powered by a 10,000mAh USB-C rechargeable main battery, supplemented by a CR123A backup battery capable of 500 emergency unlocks and functioning in temperatures as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius).
These new smart locks are Matter-compatible over Wi-Fi, ensuring seamless integration with popular smart home ecosystems without the need for a dedicated SwitchBot hub. Pricing starts at $170 for the Lock Vision and goes up to $230 for the Lock Vision Pro, positioning them competitively against other premium smart lock brands.
While the feature set is impressive, potential buyers are advised to approach with cautious optimism. SwitchBot has a history of releasing both highly successful and less reliable products. Waiting for independent reviews is recommended before making a purchase, despite the attractive price point.
