The Thermal Plant in Subnautica 2 offers a reliable power source for your base, but acquiring it requires venturing into a hazardous biome. This guide provides the necessary steps to find, craft, and effectively use this valuable technology.
To unlock the Thermal Plant blueprint, you must scan two of its fragments. Both fragments are located close to each other at the border of the Shallows and the Zezuran Desert. To reach this area, head east-southeast from your Lifepod.
Be aware of the environmental dangers. The Zezuran Desert has extremely high temperatures that will continuously deplete your health. It is essential to have the Heat Tolerance Adaptation before exploring this region. Additionally, watch out for Marrowheads that swim near the fragments. Once you arrive at the cliff edge between the two biomes, you will find the fragments ready for scanning.
After scanning the fragments, you can craft a Thermal Plant at a Fabricator. Each unit requires the following materials:
| Material | Amount | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Titanium | 3x | Base construction material |
| Copper | 3x | Electrical component material |
| Gold | 3x | Advanced crafting material |
Thermal Plants generate energy based on the temperature of the surface they are placed on, ranging from +1 to +16 energy per second. To maximize efficiency, placement is key.
+16 energy/sec
A Thermal Plant reaches its maximum output when placed next to a hot thermal vent in the Zezuran Desert.
The Zezuran Desert is filled with thermal vents that emit high heat. Placing a Thermal Plant next to one of these vents will ensure it generates the maximum output of +16 energy per second. For a substantial power grid, you can place multiple Thermal Plants around a single vent, space permitting.
To connect the power to your base, build a Power Transmitter near the Thermal Plants. Then, construct a chain of additional transmitters until the final one is connected to your base's exterior, delivering a steady supply of energy.
Build the plant beside a thermal vent so it can generate strong output.
Construct a transmitter near the plant to begin carrying the energy outward.
Extend the connection with additional transmitters until the network reaches your base.
Connect the final transmitter to your base to deliver a steady energy supply.
As you continue to expand your underwater habitat, consider exploring other power options like the Hydroelectric Turbine and the Bioreactor to meet your growing energy demands.
