Jeep has officially announced its product roadmap for the next five years, confirming the development of a new high-performance Scrambler SRT model. The plan, revealed during the Stellantis Investor Day, also includes significant updates and powertrain additions across its existing vehicle range, signaling a strategy to both strengthen its core offerings and broaden its market appeal.
The headline announcement is the confirmation of the Scrambler SRT, a new halo vehicle based on the Wrangler platform. Positioned as a top-tier performance model, it is described as a unique combination of a trophy truck and a Wrangler. A key technical feature will be the inclusion of independent front and rear suspension. Unlike the solid axles traditionally used in Wranglers for maximum off-road articulation, an independent suspension allows each wheel to react to bumps separately, which typically improves on-road handling and ride comfort without completely sacrificing off-road capability.
In a notable strategy adjustment, Jeep will offer the upcoming Recon with both an all-electric (EV) and an internal combustion engine (ICE) option. The rugged SUV, which sits below the Wrangler in the lineup, was initially introduced as an EV-only model. The addition of a gasoline engine option, set to arrive next year, indicates a move to cater to a wider range of customer preferences and market conditions. This multi-powertrain approach is also seen in the new Cherokee, which is being offered as a hybrid.
