Jaguar has confirmed the name for its highly anticipated electric grand tourer: the Type 01. This four-door sports saloon is set to spearhead the brand's transformation into a pure-electric luxury carmaker. With a power output exceeding 1000 horsepower, the Type 01 represents a significant step for the company. A full reveal is anticipated later this year, ahead of its market launch in the first half of 2027. This launch will end an approximate 18-month pause in new Jaguar production.
1000+ hp
Jaguar is using the Type 01 to relaunch itself with super-saloon power and a fully electric identity.
The name is designed to communicate heritage, electric intent, and the start of a new model family in one compact label.
Each part of the name carries a different message about Jaguar's past and future.
“Type”
A deliberate link to iconic Jaguars such as the C-Type, D-Type, and F-Type, emphasizing performance and design lineage.
“0”
A clear reference to zero emissions and the car's all-electric powertrain.
“1”
It marks the car as the first model in Jaguar's completely new era.
Underpinning the Type 01 is the Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA), a platform developed exclusively for the brand's new electric vehicles. Using a bespoke EV platform, rather than adapting one from a gasoline-powered car, allows for superior packaging of batteries and motors, optimized weight distribution for better handling, and a more spacious interior. This dedicated architecture is crucial for delivering the car's targeted 1000-plus horsepower and ensuring it meets the dynamic driving standards expected of a Jaguar.
Jaguar is repositioning itself above the traditional premium segment while stopping short of the ultra-luxury tier, then building a broader electric range from the same platform.
