Volkswagen has outlined its vehicle updates for the 2027 model year, confirming a redesigned Atlas Cross Sport and the return of the electric ID. Buzz, which now includes a camping-focused trim. These changes are accompanied by minor technology and feature adjustments across the rest of the manufacturer's lineup.
The five-seat Atlas Cross Sport is set to debut later this year with a full redesign, aligning it with the recently updated seven-seat Atlas. Power will come from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission, available in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations. The interior is expected to receive significant upgrades, including a standard 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a choice between a 12.9-inch or a 15-inch central infotainment screen. Higher-end trims will offer premium materials such as Nappa leather and genuine wood trim.
After skipping the 2026 model year, the ID. Buzz electric van returns for 2027. A key addition is the new Tourer 4Motion trim, which is specifically equipped for camping. This variant includes a fold-out mattress, window blinds for privacy, ventilation panels for the front windows, and camping gear such as an exterior table and chairs. It also features special "Overnight Mode" software that allows the vehicle's power and systems to be used for longer periods while stationary. Other updates for the ID. Buzz include a new Android-based infotainment system, a one-pedal driving mode, and the inclusion of a NACS charging adapter, which grants access to Tesla's Supercharger network. For 2027, the available two-tone paint schemes have been reduced, with Candy White over Cherry Red being the only remaining option.
Other models in the Volkswagen lineup receive more modest updates. The Taos compact SUV introduces a new Sport trim and gains an upgraded infotainment system on its base S trim. The Tiguan receives an improved rearview camera and adds a standard Auto Hold function. The Jetta and Golf GTI models see minor convenience features like keyless access added to lower trims. Production of the ID.4 in the United States has been paused, but the model is expected to return, potentially under a new name such as the ID. Tiguan. Volkswagen also announced a new subscription plan that will bundle various premium connected services.
